MALE, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Maldives Supreme Court has temporarily suspended the 13-year jail sentence handed on to the country's former President Mohamed Nasheed until it reviews his conviction as requested by the prosecutor general, local media reported Wednesday.
The court ordered the government, police and prison authorities to adhere to the suspension of the sentence which was handed on to Nasheed in 2015 by a criminal court.
The prosecutor general's office last Sunday sought a Supreme Court review of Nasheed's conviction, given under the island's terrorism law, for ordering the military to detain a top judge when Nasheed was president in 2012.
Nasheed was later offered asylum in Britain when he went there for medical treatment on leave from prison.
Local media reports said Nasheed is set to return to the Maldives on Nov. 1.
