Tokyo stocks open higher on eased U.S.-China trade tensions

TOKYO, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher on Friday as investor concern about U.S.-China trade tensions eased slightly after U.S. President Donald Trump's upbeat remarks on current discussions.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 256.59 points, or 1.18 percent, from Thursday to 21,944.24.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 11.23 points, or 0.69 percent, at 1,643.28.

Information and communication, machinery, and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
