BEIRUT, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon is seeking to increase its exports to China, said Alia Abbas, director-general of Lebanon's Economy Ministry.

"China is a very important market for Lebanon. If we succeed in increasing our exports to China, this will make a huge difference to our economy," Abbas told Xinhua in a recent interview.

China and Lebanon have been trade partners for a long time. According to the Lebanese Customs' statistics, China is Lebanon's largest trade partner and largest source of imports.

The official noted that Lebanon is currently in contact with Chinese officials to discuss the possibility of drafting a trade agreement that would benefit both countries.

Abbas said that Lebanon will participate in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) slated for Nov. 5-10 in Shanghai.

"Lebanon is considered to be a platform allowing Chinese to take part in Syria's reconstruction," she said, adding that Lebanon has received numerous delegations in the past year for this purpose.

"Lebanon can act as a bridge for China's business with other Arab countries as well," she said.
