BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday met with Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Beijing.
Wang said that China is willing to strengthen cooperation with the foundation in areas including poverty reduction, disease control, agricultural technology research and to explore and expand tripartite cooperation in Africa.
Wang pointed out that, as two major countries in the world, the cooperation between China and the U.S. leads to win-win results while conflict ends up with a loss for both sides.
The two sides should meet each other halfway and be committed to realizing a future of non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, Wang said, adding that this is feasible and will benefit the two countries as well as to the international community.
"We hope Mr. Gates and other American talents who know about China will play a positive role in promoting the healthy and stable development of China-U.S. relations," Wang said.
Gates said that mutual benefit should be the main theme of U.S.-China relations and expressed willingness to play a positive role in promoting the relations and enhancing the friendship between the two peoples.
