FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- At least three policemen including deputy chief of the sixth police precinct, were killed and three others wounded, following a Taliban grouping attack on a security checkpoint in northern Badakhshan province on Friday, an official said Saturday.
The attack happened at about 10:00 p.m. local time on Friday, when a group of Taliban militants launched an offensive on a police checkpoint in Faizabad, the provincial capital, resulting in the death of three policemen including the deputy chief for the 6th police precinct, Sanaullah Ruhani, the provincial police chief spokesman, told Xinhua.
"Taliban faced strong counterattack by the provincial security forces, and escaped the area, after leaving one fighters dead," said the spokesman.
Taliban militants who are active in parts of the troubled Badakhshan province are yet to make comments.
