NAIROBI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's anti-narcotics police said on Friday they have confiscated heroin and methamphetamine (meth) worth millions of shillings concealed in wood carvings.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Anti-Narcotics Unit said the drugs which were concealed in wood carvings, rolls of thread and atlas were destined for Greece and China.

The detectives said the drugs were found at Nairobi's general post office and seized after staff got suspicious of the cargo and alerted the police.

"Detectives from the DCI Anti-Narcotics Unit today morning confiscated heroin and methamphetamine weighing almost a kilogram and worth millions of shillings at the GPO Nairobi. The drugs were concealed in wood carvings, rolls of thread & Atlas and destined for Greece and China," said the DCI.

No arrest was immediately made after the seizure but police said they are looking for the owners of the cargo.

This is the latest case of seizure of heroin in the city in the ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and consumption.

Police have mounted operations against drug trafficking and consumption in the past months in efforts to address the menace.

According to police, seizures and arrest statistics show that more Africans are becoming involved in drug trafficking.
