HONG KONG, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The government of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Tuesday announced two grants totaling 8.8 million Hong Kong dollars (about 1.12 million U.S. dollars) from its Disaster Relief Fund to provide relief to earthquake and tsunami victims in Indonesia.

The HKSAR government has accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee and approved from the fund two grants to two Hong Kong agencies for providing the relief, a spokesman for the HKSAR government said.

The grants will be used to provide food, household and hygiene items as well as education kits to benefit around 62,700 earthquake and tsunami victims in Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia.

The Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee hoped the grants will facilitate the provision of timely relief to the victims and help them restore their normal living, the spokesman said.

To ensure the money is used for the designated purposes, the relief agencies will be asked to submit evaluation reports and audited accounts on the use of the grants after the relief projects are completed, the spokesman added.
