GAZA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- A high ranking delegation from the Islamic Hamas movement headed to Egypt's capital Cairo on Wednesday to hold talks with senior Egyptian officials on the internal Palestinian reconciliation and easing the Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.

Fawzi Barhoum, Hamas spokesman in Gaza, said in an emailed press statement that Hamas delegation, which includes leaders from Gaza and abroad, is led by Deputy Chief of Hamas Salleh Arouri.

He added that the visit of Hamas delegation was made in accordance to an official Egyptian invitation.

"The delegation includes Musa Abu Marzooq, Khalil al-Hayya, Izat Resheg, Husam Badran and Rawhi Mushtaha," said Bahroum, adding that all of them are members in Hamas politburo.

It is the first visit for a senior Hamas delegation to visit in Cairo since the last tension that flared in the Gaza Strip between Gaza militants and the Israeli army two weeks ago , which killed 14 Palestinians.

According to Barhoum, "the visit aims at promoting the bilateral ties, ending the siege that has been imposed on the Gaza Strip for 12 years and achieving a national unity in accordance to 2011 reconciliation agreement signed in Cairo."
