SYDNEY, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Convicted drug smuggler Renae Lawrence has touched down in Newcastle, Australia, returning to her life after having spent 13 years behind bars in Indonesia.
While it was anticipated that Lawrence could be met by New South Wales (NSW) police officers upon her arrival in relation to outstanding warrants, it appears that the 41-year-old has avoided falling back into the hands of the law for the time being.
However, police say she will still face questioning over a high speed chase involving a stolen vehicle which occured in 2005, months prior to her arrest for trying to smuggle 2.7 kg of heroin into Australia.
After being pursued by media at the airport, Lawrence uttered just one statement in Indonesian which translated to, "thanks to the government of Indonesia, that's it."
Lawrence is the only female member of the Bali Nine smuggling ring and the only member to have been set free.
Ring leaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukamaran were executed by Indonesian authorities in 2015.
