BANGKOK, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Around 500 kg of marijuana were seized in a crashed pickup truck in northeastern Thailand on Thursday morning.
A total of 500 bars of marijuana were found after the pickup truck overturned and fell into a roadside ditch at a curve at about 4:00 a.m. local time in Khon Kaen Province, police said at a press conference.
The driver fled. Investigators believed that the driver was delivering the marijuana to a drug network member in the Khon Kaen, a province sharing border with Laos, as they found another vehicle scouting out the road ahead.
According to police, a mobile phone, a wallet and four fake license plates were found inside the vehicle.
Police got a tip-off that a gang would try to smuggle the marijuana from neighboring country to the central part or a southern province of Thailand.
