LAGOS, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Police in Nigeria on Monday confirmed the shooting to dead of a renowned medical doctor Andrew Malgwi and his wife in northeast city of Yola.
State police spokesperson Othman Abubakar told Xinhua that Malgwi and his wife were on Sunday shot by unknown gunmen in his farm at Boggare area, located on the outskirt of Yola, capital of Adamawa.
Abubakar said investigation was still on to ascertain whether it was a case of assassination or kidnapping.
Some residents of Boggare observed that the incident could not be unconnected with kidnappers that have been on prowl in the area.
There were gun shots and it was learnt that the elderly doctor and his wife who were at the farm to supervise harvest sensed danger and ran into their car in an attempt to run but the gunmen opened fire on them, a resident who preferred anonymity told Xinhua.
The late Malgwi was a former state commissioner of health and the proprietor of a private clinic.
