ATHENS, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Greece has seen the first death from the influenza type A virus this winter, the Hellenic Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) announced on Friday.
According to Greek national news agency AMNA, the 49-year-old victim belonged to a vulnerable group and had not been vaccinated against the virus.
KEELPNO experts urged people belonging to population segments at high risk of complications to get inoculated.
During the winter season 2017-2018 Greek authorities recorded 42 fatalities. In 2016, according to KEELPNO's data, 108 people lost their lives due to complications after contracting the seasonal flu virus.
