WASHINGTON -- International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Christine Lagarde on Saturday said there is "an urgent need" to de-escalate trade tensions, reverse recent tariff increases and modernize the rules-based multilateral trade system.
In a statement issued at the conclusion of the Group of 20 (G20) Summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lagarde reiterated her staunch opposition to trade barriers, noting that the choice is "especially stark" regarding trade.

BUENOS AIRES -- Chinese President Xi Jinping and his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, agreed Saturday to take measures to ease bilateral trade tensions and keep up close contacts, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
"In a friendly and candid atmosphere, the two presidents had profound discussions that have lasted for two and a half hours. The time was much longer than the schedule," Wang told reporters when briefing on the Xi-Trump meeting earlier in the day after the Group of 20 (G20) summit in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump has had "informal" conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday, said the White House on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders, "as is typical at multilateral events, President Trump and the First Lady had a number of informal conversations with world leaders at the dinner last night, including President Putin." Enditem
