SARI PUL, Afghanistan, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Two police officers were killed following a Taliban ambush attack in Afghanistan's northern province of Sari Pul overnight, local police said Tuesday.
"Abdul Malik, acting police chief of Sayyad district, and one police officer were killed after Taliban ambushed their vehicle in a surrounding area of the district late Monday night," provincial police spokesman Mohammad Warris told Xinhua.
The province has been the scene of sporadic clashes between security forces and Taliban within the past months.
The Afghan security forces' casualties have risen since the beginning of 2015 when Afghan soldiers and police assumed full responsibilities of security from the United States and NATO troops.
