ZHENGZHOU, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- A large graphite deposit has been discovered in central China's Henan Province, according to the provincial geology and minerals prospecting bureau.
Initial surveys show that the deposit, located in Xichuan County, has a reserve of more than 14.8 million tonnes of graphite. And the prospective reserve of graphite in the area could top 100 million tonnes.
The bureau said the discovery could turn Xichuan into a major graphite mining base in the country.
Graphite can be widely used in modern industries, including aerospace, electronics, metallurgy. It is the basis for the miracle material graphene, which is viewed as a key material in China's innovation-driven development strategy.
