HARARE, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in a collision Sunday involving two commuter buses along the Harare-Nyamapanda highway has risen to 14, Zimbabwe police said on Monday.
The head-on collision occurred 49 km from Harare along the highway to Mozambique, and 12 people died on the spot while two others died later in hospital, police commanding officer for Murehwa District Frank Masuka told state broadcaster ZBC.
An infant and two older children were among the deceased, Masuka said.
At least 12 people are listed as in critical condition while 17 other survivors are in stable condition, according to the ZBC.
Zimbabwe has experienced a spate of road accidents in recent weeks, with a total of 103 people having so far died in four major accidents in the past month.
Police have blamed most of the accidents on speeding.
