The upper part of the combo photo taken in 1981 shows Wang Shungao at a heat and power plant in Jingmen, central China's Hubei Province. The lower part of the combo photo taken on Dec. 13, 2018 shows Wang Shungao at a construction site in Luohu District of Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province. The 55-year-old Wang Shungao came from Wangtan Village of Mazhai Town, east China's Zhejiang Province. He went to Shenzhen in 1982 to build Guomao Mansion, Shenzhen Grand Theater and many other landmark buildings. He met his love at work and decided to stay here. He used to be a carpenter and an electrician, and now he is the security officer at construction site. Migrant workers have contributed their strengths and talents to the development of cities in the past 40 years of China's reform and opening-up. They worked very hard to improve their professional skills and thus change their life. At the same time, the cities they worked in have also accepted them as citizens and rewarded them in various ways. (Xinhua/Ma Ping)
