ACCRA, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's Olympic football team the "Black Meteors" defeated Togo 5-1 on Tuesday in the first-leg their Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifier played at the Baba Yara sports stadium in Kumasi, Ghana.
Spain-based striker Kwabena Owusu nabbed a hat-trick and Osman Bukari and Yakubu Nassam Ibrahim scored to seal victory for Ghana's U-23 side. The team is fighting to make its first appearance in the Olympic football competition since Athens in 2004.
Togo will host the second-leg in the national capital Lome on Saturday, Dec. 22. The winner of the two-legged encounter will play Gabon in the second stage of the qualifiers which serves as a route to the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Egypt from Nov. 8 to 22, 2019.
