RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Chief Federal Prosecutor Raquel Dodge on Wednesday brought corruption charges against President Michel Temer to the Supreme Court.
The corruption charges came on the Supreme Court's last day of work this year. The Court will enter a holiday recess for the next weeks.
The indictment is the result of an investigation of the Federal Police which found evidence that Temer and 10 others participated in a scheme to favor specific companies operating in Brazil's port sector.
According to the investigators, President Temer signed a decree which changed regulations related to the concession of ports to the private sector's administration, in exchange for large bribes. The decree was reportedly tailored to favor specific companies in concession processes.
It is the third corruption charges against the president. The other two were temporarily shelved after the House of Representatives decided not to pursue them while Temer was in office.
However, with Temer leaving the presidency on December 31, his right to being tried only by the Supreme Court ends, and he can answer in all three cases.
