Methane explosion in Czech mine leads to at least one death

PRAGUE, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Methane exploded in the Dul CSM mine in Karvina in the Czech Republic on Thursday, making at least one person dead, about ten miners injured and another ten missing, said the spokesman for the OKD mining company Ivo Celechovsky.

According to Celechovsky, the disaster happened at around 5:00 p.m. local time in the northern area of the mine. The explosion has caused the devastation of some mining sites.

Mining rescuers are now intervening underground, searching through the area devastated by the explosion.

Celechovsky said the underground work in the shaft was stopped immediately and the miners were evacuated.
