JERUSALEM, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Israel charged on Friday a Jordanian national with four counts of terrorism after he attacked Israelis with a hammer in the southern resort city of Eilat in November.
Taher Khalaf, 28, was charged with attempted murder of two Israelis in addition to offenses under the Anti-Terror Law, the justice ministry said in a statement.
The indictment was filed by the Southern District Attorney's Office following a three-week investigation by Israel's Shin Bet security service, which concluded that the attack was a nationalistically motivated act of terror.
According to the indictment, Khalaf has attempted several times to perpetrate an attack in Israel since 2008, but all failed.
On Nov. 30, he entered Israel with a daily worker visa and attacked and badly wounded two Israeli co-workers in the port of Eilat, located across the border with the Jordanian city of Aqaba.
The incident came amid a resurging wave of violence between Israelis and Palestinians.
The relations between Israel and Jordan, which signed a peace treaty in 1994, have remained cold with occasional tensions over violent incidents and political disagreements.
