BANGKOK, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- LGBT groups in Thailand welcome the cabinet's approval of the bill that legalizes same-sex marriage on social media on Wednesday.
The cabinet approved the civil partnership bill on Tuesday. In the current version of the bill, same-sex couples may adopt children, according to an adviser to the Prime Minister's Office.
The couple must have Thai nationality and must be at least 20 years old, the current version stipulates.
They will have the rights to collectively manage their assets and liabilities and to inherit the property once either of them dies, to give consent for medical treatment and to arrange for the funeral of either of them.
The bill will go to the National Legislative Assembly (NLA). It will be effective in 120 days after the NLA approved it.
