MINSK, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Belarus' gold and foreign currency reserves amounted to 7.16 billion U.S. dollars as of Jan. 1, decreasing over the past year by 2.2 percent, the country's central bank said on Friday.
According to preliminary data, in December 2018, gold and foreign currency reserves decreased by 282.3 million dollars, or 3.8 percent, the bank said.
In the same month, the Belarusian government and the central bank fulfilled foreign and domestic obligations in foreign currency in the amount of about 940 million dollars, including 470 million ahead of schedule.
The government and the central bank fulfilled obligations in foreign currency in the amount of about 5.7 billion dollars in 2018.
The Belarusian authorities predicted the volume of gold and foreign currency reserves should reach at least 7.1 billion dollars on Jan. 1, 2020.
