SUVA, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Littering remains a concern for Fiji, Fiji's Fisheries Minister Semi Koroilavesau said on Wednesday.
Koroilavesau said the situation was evident in the capital city Suva, particularly from the Bowling Club to the National Stadium stretch along the seafront.
He said people need to change their mindset and treat the environment with care, according to local media.
"I mean you just have to follow a public bus or a private vehicle to see the amount of plastic that comes out the window. Public awareness is so important for people to understand," he said.
Koroilavesau said his ministry launched the campaign of cleaning areas that are widely polluted.
He added they also have launched a program to clean beaches around the island nation.
