BEIRUT, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Australian Defense Minister Christopher Pyne said Wednesday that his country will continue its support for the Lebanese army, local media reported.
"We will continue supporting the Lebanese army in a bid to enable it to assume its full responsibilities," Pyne was quoted as saying by the National News Agency (NNA).
Pyne's remarks came during his meeting at Baabda Palace with President Michel Aoun.
Pyne also met with House Speaker Nabih Berri.
He emphasized during his meeting that his country has very strong ties with the Lebanese army in fighting against the Islamic State group and terrorism.
"The exchange in security information between Lebanon and Australia was very important in fighting against terrorism in both countries," NNA quoted Pyne as saying.
