BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) must continue to strive to enhance its capabilities and integrity by planning and formulating effective strategies to combat the rise of non-traditional crimes.
This was stated by Brunei's Minister at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and Second Minister of Finance and Economy Mohd Amin Liew at Tuesday's parade to mark the 98th anniversary of the RBPF at the Police Training Centre.
According to a report by local daily Borneo Bulletin on Wednesday, the minister said that the RBPF will always face challenges in law enforcement amidst the rapid advancement and increasing sophistication of technology. This includes the rise of non-traditional crimes such as cross-border crime and cybercrimes.
"The theme for this year's celebration, 'Together Forward Facing Challenges' is very timely given the technological developments that have greatly changed trends in crime, which has now become very challenging and complex," he said.
The minister added that the RBPF is called to play a role as a close partner and to work with the people in efforts to combat crime in the country, adding that the police force has established a network with stakeholders and law enforcement agencies to improve the effectiveness of its services.
