KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- A Cargolux Airlines International cargo plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after "fire and smoke" was detected aboard late on Wednesday.
In a brief statement, the Luxembourg-based company, Cargolux, confirmed that its flight CV7303 en-route from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Zhengzhou, China, returned to KLIA shortly after take-off.
"An emergency was declared after the crew reported the presence of fire and smoke in the cockpit. The operating crew took the decision of returning to Kuala Lumpur where the aircraft was safely landed.
"The rescue services were alerted and the runway was temporarily closed before reopening once the aircraft was returned back to the ramp. The crew were able to leave the aircraft unharmed," the cargo carrier said.
Airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings (MAHB) said via social media that the plane had proceeded for an emergency landing at its Runway 1.
"However, we are glad to note that the aircraft landed safely and the incident didn't involve any casualties," said MAHB, adding the runway was temporarily closed as Airport Fire Rescue Service team inspected the aircraft, before reopened later.
