LUSAKA, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- A court in northwestern Zambia has convicted a former senior official in government over corrupt practices, the country's anti-corruption agency said on Tuesday.
Fabian Mumba, who served as North-Western Permanent Secretary, was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
Timothy Moon, spokesperson of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said the former permanent secretary's sentence has been suspended for two years.
He was arrested by the anti-corruption agency in 2017 and was jointly charged with a procurement manager at the provincial office for one count of willful failure to comply with applicable procedures and guidelines.
According to the anti-corruption agency spokesperson, the former permanent secretary willfully failed to comply with applicable laws, procedures or guidelines relating to the procurement of works for the extension of a road.
President Edgar Lungu has taken the fight against corruption seriously and warned that he will not protect anyone regardless of their status.
