TRIPOLI, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Maria do Valle Ribeiro, UN deputy special representative in Libya, on Wednesday stressed support for Libyan women's role in peace-building and development.
The UN official made her remarks during a meeting with Laila Al-Lafi, chief of the Libyan government's Women's Empowerment and Support Unit, the UN Support Mission in Libya said.
"Libyan women's role in peace-building and development is paramount," Valle Ribeiro said, stressing support for the unit.
The Women's Empowerment and Support Unit has been appointed based on Article 11 of the UN-sponsored Libyan political agreement, which was signed by the Libyan rivals in late 2015 in order to end the political division in the country.
