ALGIERS, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Algeria late on Wednesday for a two-day visit at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart Abdelkader Messahel, state-run television channel reported.
Lavrov's visit is part of regular political dialogue between the two countries as recommended by the Joint Declaration on the Strategic Partnership signed on April 2, 2001.
During his stay in the capital Algiers, Lavrov is due to hold talks with Algerian top officials to exchange views on major regional and international issues, including the situation in Libya, Mali and Syria.
The visit also came on the eve of the 9th Algerian-Russian Joint Economic Commission which is set to be held in Moscow on Jan. 28-30.
Unstable oil prices should also be on the agenda of Lavrov's visit, as Algeria and Russia have already underlined the necessity to continue their efforts among Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and non-OPEC members in a bid to rebalance the market.
