XINING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- China's Qinghai Province transmitted over 10 billion kilowatt hours of electricity generated by clean energy out of the province in 2018.

The clean energy-generated electricity was mainly transmitted to provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Gansu.

State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Company said that among the amount, the province transferred nearly 3.76 billion kilowatt hours of electricity generated by solar and wind energy, rising 83.8 percent year-on-year.

Located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the province is home to headwaters of three major rivers: the Yellow, Yangtze and Lancang (Mekong). The province has abundant hydropower, solar and wind energy.

Based on its resources, the province has rolled out a series of industrial plans and supporting policies to facilitate the development of clean energy.

Qinghai saw its total installed power capacity reach 28 million kilowatts at the end of 2018, including nearly 12 million kilowatts of installed hydropower capacity, 9.6 million kilowatts of installed solar power capacity and 2.67 million kilowatts of installed wind power capacity.

In February 2018, the National Energy Administration approved six provincial-level regions -- Qinghai, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Tibet, Gansu and Ningxia -- to spearhead clean energy development.

Qinghai plans to expand its solar and wind capacity to 20 million kilowatts by 2020.

The province set a new world record last year -- 6 million people used only clean energy for nine consecutive days. During the 216 hours, the province ran solely on electricity generated from wind, solar and hydro power stations.
