ALGIERS, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday said in Algiers that Moscow is ready to examine ways of easing the visa regime with Algeria, APS news agency reported.

"As for the visa regime, we are still in favor of simplifying it, creating favorable conditions for our citizens and those of our partner countries," Lavrov told a joint press conference with his Algerian counterpart Abdelkader Messahel.

The two nations signed an intergovernmental agreement in Moscow in Feb. 2018 on the cancellation of visas for holders of diplomatic and service passports.

Lavrov arrived late on Wednesday to Algeria as he was welcomed by Messahel upon his arrival at the international airport of Algiers.

On Thursday, Lavrov held talks with top Algerian officials, including Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, about bilateral cooperation as well as the situations in Syria and Libya.

The Russian foreign minister is set to leave Algeria late on Thursday for Tunisia and Morocco.
