TOKYO, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended gains Friday morning as investor sentiment was lifted by solid earnings from U.S. chipmakers and the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 209.04 points, or 1.02 percent, from Thursday to 20,783.67.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 14.49 points, or 0.93 percent, at 1,567.09.
Machinery, oil and coal product, and metal product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
