HANOI, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations (UN) Day of Vesak, or the birth of Buddha, is scheduled to take place at Tam Chuc pagoda in Vietnam's northern Ha Nam province on May 12-14.
The International Council for the Day of Vesak and Vietnam Buddhist Sangha held their second meeting Friday in northern Ninh Binh province on preparations for the event, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Themed "Buddhist Approach to Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Sustainable Societies," the event is expected to attract 1,500 religious dignitaries, researchers, scientists, and managers from countries and regions worldwide, as well as about 10,000 Buddhist followers and people.
This will be the third time the UN's commemoration of Vesak is held in Vietnam. Previously, it took place in the capital of Hanoi in 2008 and Ninh Binh in 2014.
