HANOI, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- A train departing from Vietnam's capital Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City derailed on Sunday in central Binh Thuan province, causing no casualties but paralyzing the country's North-South railway, local media reported.
The SE1 train derailed when approaching a station in Tuy Phong district, which paralyzed the North-South railway for hours, forcing many trains to depart late from Saigon Station in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam News Agency quoted the Vietnam Railways Corporation as reporting.
The state-owned corporation has recently installed surveillance cameras at locomotives of trains to timely give warnings when they approach rail sections which cross roads.
Vietnam's railway sector transported 8.5 million passengers in 2018, down 9.8 percent against 2017, and 5.7 million tons of cargoes, up 2.2 percent, according to the General Statistics Office.
