PARIS, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- A street artist work by world-famous guerrilla artist Banksy has been stolen from the Bataclan theater in Paris where 90 people were killed in a mass shooting on Nov. 13, 2015, according to theater officials.
"The work of @originaIbanksy tribute to the victims of the 13/11 was stolen," the theater tweeted on Saturday. The incident sparked "a deep outrage," the theater said in a short statement published on Facebook.
Banksy's work is a symbol of contemplation that belongs to everyone, while it only makes sense in that exact place, according to the statement written in French.
His artwork, drawn on one of the exit doors in the theater, depicts a woman solemnly bowing her head.
Banksy is an anonymous Britain-based street artist who made his name through a series of graffiti pieces in cities throughout the world.
Paris police are still investigating the case. It is reported that the theater's alarm was triggered early Saturday morning by thieves who were later spotted leaving in a van. The theater CCTV footage has not been made public.
The Bataclan mass shooting, in which three Islamist State militants sprayed automatic gunfire into the crowd at the Bataclan theater, is the deadliest terrorist attack in France's history.
In coordinated attacks on that day, other terrorists struck a sports stadium, restaurants and cafes in Paris, causing another 40 deaths.
