MADRID, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Spanish badminton star Carolina Marin will be out of the game for several months after it was confirmed on Monday that she has suffered a broken cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The 25-year-old three-time and reigning world champion and current Olympic champion, sustained the injury by landing badly while playing in the final of the Indonesian Masters and had to retire from the match, which she was winning 10-4, in tears.

Tests carried out in Spain on Monday have confirmed the extent of the injury, which will need an operation and several months of recovery time, although a date for the operation has not yet been confirmed.
