Sultanate of Oman reports 4 people with SARS

MUSCAT, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Sultanate of Oman on Monday reported that four people are diagnosed with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

An official statement by the Omani Ministry of Health affirmed the four cases were receiving health care and treatment at a government hospital.

The ministry said it took the necessary health measures with other authorities concerned that all hospitals are ready to handle such cases and efforts are underway to combat the disease through an effective epidemiological surveillance system.

It appealed to all citizens and residents to abide by the necessary precautions to combat infection, observe hygiene ways when sneezing or coughing and get information from official sources.

The total number of SARS cases, recorded in the Sultanate since 2013, including these four cases, hit 18, according to the statement.

SARS is a viral respiratory disease caused by the SARS coronavirus.
