TOKYO, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended essentially flat on Tuesday as earlier losses triggered by an overnight slide on Wall Street after subpar corporate earnings reports was later offset by investors buying back oversold issues on dips.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 15.64 points, or 0.08 percent, from Monday to close the day at 20,664.64.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 1.58 points, or 0.10 percent, to finish at 1,557.09.
Electric power and gas, farm and fishery, and pulp and paper-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
