AMMAN, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Tuesday decided to temporarily stop issuing licenses for electricity power plants, whether they are renewable energy plants or traditional ones.
The cabinet said the decision was taken as the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is working on a study regarding the demand and the capacity of the grid.
The cabinet said that the country focuses currently on energy storage projects and grid connection, as well as reducing the energy loss to help reduce energy costs.
The ministry indicated Tuesday that the total capacity of renewable energy projects will reach 2,350 megawatts by 2020, accounting for 20 percent of the total generated energy in Jordan.
The ministry said it is keen on ensuring the stability of the electricity supply and studies are underway on how to absorb more capacities.
The ministry said it decided to postpone receiving new applications for new power plants.
According to the ministry, Jordan attracted 4 billion U.S. dollars worth of energy projects in the field of renewable energy.
