Jordan's king calls for joint Arab action to address issues of concern

AMMAN, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan on Wednesday called for joint Arab action to resolve issues of concern and fulfill Arab interests, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

The king made his remarks at a meeting with foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Kuwait and Egypt.

The foreign ministers of the Gulf states and Egypt will hold a meeting Thursday in Jordan to look into bilateral ties and developments in the Middle East and exchange viewpoints on dealing with challenges to serve the Arab interests and resolve crises in the region.

At the meeting with the ministers, King Abdullah underlined the need for coordination among the Arab states and towards issues in the Middle East.

The Jordanian leader stressed on the need to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two state-solution and the Arab peace initiative leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital at the borders of 1967.
