AMMAN, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Jordan announced on Saturday that it agreed to host another meeting between the Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels next week over an agreement to exchange prisoners and detainees.

Jordanian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sufian Qudah said the ministry approved a request by UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths to host the meeting in Jordan's capital Amman.

Jordan supports all efforts in this regard and will place all its capabilities to help end the crisis and reach a political solution, he added.

In mid-January, Jordan hosted the first meeting between the warring sides upon a request from the UN envoy.

In December 2018 and following consultations in Sweden, the two sides reached an agreement to swap prisoners that stand at about 15,000.

The Sweden Agreement called for the urgent need to address the dire humanitarian situation and unsafe condition facing the Yemeni people.

The parties reached an agreement on the city of Hodeidah and the ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa, an executive mechanism on activating the prisoner exchange deal and a statement of understanding on Taiz, a southwestern city in Yemen.

They vowed to fully implement the agreement, refrain from any action, escalation or decision that would undermine the full implementation of the agreement, and continue the consultation unconditionally in January.
