NEW DELHI, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake of 5.6 magnitude hit Indian-controlled Kashmir and its adjoining areas on Tuesday night, officials said.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the quake occurred at 10:17 p.m. local time.
The epicentre of earthquake was located at 34.8 degrees north latitude and 74.3 degrees east longitude, information released by the Indian Meteorological Department said.
"The depth of the earthquake was 80 km."
The earthquake was felt in the entire region. Reports said panic-stricken people rushed out of buildings and gathered in open streets.
"I came out of the house after everything started trembling," Harris Syed, a local resident in Srinagar told Xinhua. "The earth was shaking and I feared house will collapse."
So far there were no reports of any damage or loss of lives in the earthquake.
