CHICAGO, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. automaker Ford Wednesday issued three recalls of more than 1.5 million vehicles in North America, mostly for downshift without warning.

The first safety recall involves select 2011 to 2013 Ford F-150 vehicles with six-speed automatic transmission shift issues. About 1.48 million vehicles in North America will be recalled, including approximately 1.26 million in the United States and approximately 221,000 in Canada.

Ford said the transmissions can suddenly downshift into first gear due to a glitch in sending a signal from the transmission speed sensor.

Ford received five reports of accidents including one that caused a whiplash injury from a sudden downshift.

As a remedy, owners will be notified by letter starting March 4. Dealers will update the powertrain control module software to fix the problem.

The second safety recall involved about 27,000 Lincoln Continental vehicles for the model of 2017 to 2019, as door latches may not engage.

Ford said dealers will remove and replace the door latch assemblies in all four doors of the affected vehicles at no cost to the customer.

For the third recall, about 4,200 Ford Mustang, Lincoln Nautilus and Lincoln Navigator vehicles will be called back for blank instrument panel cluster assemblies that may be blank upon vehicle startup.
