TRIPOLI, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Libya's eastern-based army on Monday allowed resumption of civilian flights in southern Libya after declaring the region a no-fly zone recently.
According to the army's spokesman Ahmad al-Mismari, the army permitted resumption of civilian flights "taking into account humanitarian and social conditions."
"Security services will work under the supervision of Sabha military zone," the spokesman said in a statement.
On Feb. 8, the army banned all aircraft from flying in southern Libya without permission, as the army continues its anti-terror campaign in the region.
The army, led by Khalifa Haftar, has been carrying out a military campaign against terrorism and crime in the south since mid-January.
The army is allied with the eastern-based government, as Libya is politically divided between two governments in the east and the west, both competing for legitimacy.
