PRAGUE, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Czech Republic wants to become an innovation leader in Europe, Prime Minister Andrej Babis said Monday at a conference to introduce the Innovative Strategy of the Czech Republic 2019-2030.

"It is great news that we have a clear innovation strategy at last, and that we want to be among the top of European countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland and Finland. They decided to go this way 15 years ago and are now among the most prosperous countries," Babis told the conference.

The innovation strategy, according to Babis, will help the country reinforce final production and create added value.

"The consistent fulfillment of the strategy is not just about moving into the rank of innovative companies in the first European league. If we succeed, we will reinforce the final production and create added value," said Babis.

He added that this will mean higher wages, higher profitability for companies and, logically, higher government revenues.

The Czech government has adopted the strategy as a key government document. It sets out the aim of 2.5 percent of GDP invested in research and development by 2025 and 3 percent by 2030.
