TRIPOLI, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Khalid al-Meshri, head of Libya's Higher Council of State, on Tuesday stressed the importance of the return of Turkish companies to Libya to resume suspended projects.
Al-Meshri made his remarks during a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Libya Serhat Aksen in the capital Tripoli where the two officials discussed the latest political and economic developments in Libya.
"The Head of the Council stressed keenness of the Higher Council of State to strengthen relations with Turkey, pointing out the need for the return of Turkish companies working on development and infrastructure projects in Libya, in addition to the Turkish airlines," the Council's information office said in a statement.
"The Turkish ambassador pointed out that his country encourages Turkish companies to return to Libya," the statement said, adding that the ambassador is currently holding meetings with senior Libyan officials to discuss the return of Turkish companies to Libya.
Most foreign companies in Libya have left since 2014 when violent clashes between rival armed groups broke out in the capital Tripoli, leading to lingering political division across the country.
