MEXICO CITY, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Mexican Navy said Wednesday it has seized 630 kg of cocaine on a small boat off the coast of the northwestern state of Sinaloa, and arrested 15 people on board.
In a statement, the agency said the operation took place on Monday after a naval plane spotted the boat, equipped with four high-speed motors and moving at a high speed.
The Naval officials then deployed helicopters and boats in pursuit of the suspected traffickers.
The boat was carrying dozens of yellow packages containing a total of 630 kg of cocaine, it said. Among those arrested were eight Ecuadorian, four Colombian and three Mexican nationals.
The authorities said the cocaine from drug cartels in South America was bound for the United States.
