TEHRAN, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian Navy launched cruise missiles in the ongoing military exercise in the southern waters on Saturday, Tasnim news agency reported.

The sea-to-sea Qader and Qadeer missiles were launched at offshore targets by the indigenous Naqdi destroyer and Tabarzin corvette during the second day of the large-scale naval drill, code-named Velayat-97, on Saturday.

Qader and Qadeer missiles, with the ranges of 250 km and 300 km respectively, can be fired from vessels, coastal systems, and military aircraft.

Also, the Navy's onshore systems fired coast-to-sea missiles to detonate the hypothetical enemy's vessels.

On Thursday, Iran's Navy commander Hossein Khanzadi said the naval drills will be held in an area of 2 million square km in the southern waters, stretching from the Strait of Hormuz to the Sea of Oman and the northern parts of the Indian Ocean.
