TEHRAN, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Iran reiterated that its advisory presence in Syria is "lawful," Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, told Tasnim news agency on Saturday.
Iran provides "advisory help" for Syria in the fight against terrorism at the request of the Damascus government and will maintain its supports to the Arab country and its people, said Shamkhani.
"Lawful presence in Syria is the basic principle for the Islamic Republic, and all parties acknowledge that Iran has behaved successfully in such process," he added.
Shamkhani also said that Iran allies with Syria to counter Israeli threats.
Iran says it has deployed military advisers to Syria at the request of the Damascus government.
